2008: The Second Act

Just because you bought the ticket doesn’t mean you have to stay for the second act.” -Anonymous (from a print hanging on my wall)

Good morning! When I realized that tomorrow marks the official start of the second half of the calendar year, I knew just the quote I needed to dig up and share with you. I nodded in recognition when I first read this quote. It resonated with how often we start something and commit our time to it, and then realize that the activity isn’t fulfilling our purpose or goals in the way we had hoped. Or perhaps we have filled our calendars with activities that keep us busy but do not take us any closer to the life we truly desire.

At least once each season it is valuable to step back and look at our activities and commitments. If they are not leading us to a more fulfilling and rich life, then we would be wise to change paths. As the quote says, “We don’t have to stay for the second act.” Our time is valuable. Our energy is valuable. Our lives are valuable.

Your Turn: Reflect on your current activities and commitments. Are they leading you toward a more fulfilling and rich life? Think about ways to minimize the activities that don’t reward you, and make space for activities that are more rewarding.

Today’s Affirmation: I spend my time wisely.

Reflection Questions:
What goals did I set at the New Year?

What goals have I outgrown?

What goals have I added?
What goals will I revise?

What have I learned in the first half of the year that can help me maximize the six remaining months?

  1. I love this statement. Tomorrow is my birthday and I always think of July 1 as another New Year’s Day. It is the beginning for the 2nd half of the year and what better time to renew my goals and objectives than on my birthday.
Happy 1/2 year to one and all.
