Good Morning: Don’t Give up on Your Dreams

“Never sacrifice the permanent on the altar of the immediate.”

~Dr. Bob Jones Sr.

Rose sent this quote to me a long time ago and I just came across it again while searching through my emails. I thought the quote especially relevant as we talk about dreams and goals.

When we first conceptualize a new dream or goal and take the first few steps, we are full of excitement, expectation and hope. The change seems welcoming and fresh. But change is never easy. As we go further down the path, it can be hard to maintain change, giving up seems easy, and we often choose the path of least resistance.

And so it is with our dreams. As obstacles and challenges surface, we can find ourselves doubting our ability to rise to the challenge. That is why it is so important to create a concrete vision of where you want to go at the beginning, when hopes are high. At that point, we need to capture why we want to make a change in our life or reach a dream. Then we need to turn back to that vision and embrace it during difficult times. From that vision we have to derive the energy to take the next step, and the next. We cannot sacrifice that dream for immediate relief – for in the long term, that will not take us to where we want to be.

Your Turn:
Take a moment to clearly visualize your dream. Begin writing down all the reasons this dream is important to you. Keep adding to this list. When the road gets tough, come back to this list for inspiration to take the next step.

Your affirmation:
Nothing will stop me from reaching my dreams.

And as always, don’t forget to start your day with a heartfelt: “Something great is going to happen today… I can’t wait to see what it is!”

And when ending your day ask yourself: “What is one more thing I can do to make today matter?”
