Thinking carefully…

“A man becomes what he thinks about all day long.” -Ralph Waldo Emerson

Good morning! This Emerson quote offers a quick and easy way to “step into the moment” and double-check our thinking. Read this quote at the end of your day. At midnight, instead of turning into a pumpkin like the Cinderella story, what would you turn into based on your thoughts?

Ask yourself that question each evening this week. Write down your answers. This will quickly give you an “insider look” at where your life is headed. You certainly don’t need a crystal ball, all you need is to evaluate and observe your thoughts.

Your Turn: Challenge yourself to write a different, positive ending to each day of your life.

Today’s Affirmation: My thoughts represent where I want to go in life and how I want to feel…and where I want to be and how I want to feel today.

  1. Brook, I got this today and it seemed to reinforce Emerson’s thoughts on our attitudes. To take it one step further….as an adult, I avoid getting stuck in the rain. As a child, nothing was more fun than dancing in the rain. I am going to write the last sentence in my CAN. ENJOY!!!

    Attitude

There once was a woman who woke up one morning,
    looked in the mirror,
and noticed she had only three hairs on her head.
‘Well,’ she said, ‘I think I’ll braid my hair today.’
So she did and she had a wonderful day.

The next day she woke up,
    looked in the mirror
and saw that she had only two hairs on her head.
    ‘H-M-M,’ she said,
‘I think I’ll part my hair down the middle today.’
So she did and she had a grand day.

The next day she woke up,
looked in the mirror and noticed
that she had only one hair on her head.
‘Well,’ she said, ‘today I’m going
to wear my hair in a pony tail.’
So she did, and she had a fun, fun day.

The next day she woke up,
looked in the mirror and noticed
that there wasn’t a single hair on her head.
    ‘YAY!’ she exclaimed.
‘I don’t have to fix my hair today!’

    Attitude is everything.

    Be kinder than necessary,
for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle .
    Live simply,

    Love generously,
    Care deeply,
    Speak kindly…….
Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass…

It’s about learning to dance in the rain.

  2. Cathy, I’m way behind on reading my emails but wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed your poem about the lady with 3 hairs on her head. I am printing this out and keeping it on my desk for those days when I am having a “bad hair day”. Perspective and attitude can change your life.
Thanks so much for including this in your email.
    Maggie.
